;Liuzhi Special District is located in the west of Guizhou Province. It is the east gate to Liupanshui, “the Cool City of China” , and also the hinterland of ancient Yelang. It came into being by merger of Liuzhi Special District and Langdai County. The land area of the whole district is 1799.48km²，governing 15 townships /towns, 4 communities ,with a total population of about 700,000. People of 32 ethnic groups, such as Han ,Yi and Miao, live in the district.
LiuZhi Special District abuts on the Central Guizhou Economic Zone, a key economic zone of the state. It is the important bearing point of the west wing under the “Two Wing Development” program in the State Council Document No.2. It is the east axis of the Panzhihua-Liupanshui Rich-resource Area Economic Belt under national planning and construction. It is on the main routeway from Guizhou to Yunnan and Guangxi in the south.It is also one of the few areas in Guizhou that own upper reaches of two water systems (Changjinag River system and Zhujinag River system ).
Guiyang-kunming Railway and Zhuzhou-Liupanshui Double-Line Electrified Railway runs through the district. Huangtong Marshalling Station is the cross-joint between Zhuzhou-Liupanshui Double-Line Railway and Longchang (Sichuan )-Baise(Guangxi) Railway under construction. Shanghai-Kunming Expressway, Guiyang-Yanduishan Highway, Shuicheng-Huangguoshu Hing-grade Highway and Liuzhi-Nayong Highway, Liupanshui-Liuzhi-Zhenning Expressway, and Liupanshui Expressway Section alos run through the district. The construction of Nayong-Liuzhi-Qinglong Section of Bijie-Xingyi Expressway will commence soon. The downtown area of Liuzhi is 60km away from Anshun and Liupanshui airports, respectively. Liuzhi is now developing a grand traffic network with railways and expressways, “two-vertically and two-horizontally ”.
